Meet SCOTT, our Member of the Month!
Scott is such a perfect example of what makes the Croga community special. He’s been a longtime member, and his kindness, positivity, and willingness to make everyone around him feel welcome are a huge part of who he is. It’s also been amazing watching Scott and his son Gabriel make some seriously impressive progress together in the gym. Seeing them show up, work hard, and continue to get better has been awesome, and we’re incredibly grateful to have both of them as part of the Croga family. Congratulations, Scott, and thank you for being such an awesome part of our community!

When did you join Croga?
My first official class was July 2nd of 2013…but then injuries and moving to south San Jose pulled me away from Croga…we came back home at the end of September of 2025…
What were you doing before for fitness?
I was a life long soccer player….so strong legs, core and cardio…but never lifted weights. Fell in love with the Olympic Lifting.. but as life is always full of peaks and valleys, you can easily find your self out of shape for a variety of reasons. Work, injuries, sickness, etc..sll played a part in my getting “Lazy” and letting myself go.
What was your first workout? First reaction to your first workout?
In 2013 the first workout was the intro class and Kelly tried to kill me.
.. it involved some sort of running, squats, pushups and situps…
When we came back in 2025 it was a complex power snatch + hang squat snatch+ overhead Squat….followed by a 5 min amrap bike cal 15 sec in 45 second rest
On both occasions that I couldn’t believe how far out of shape I had let myself get..
What improvements have you seen in the way you look, feel, and perform?
Feel that I can move, breathe and do the things I want to do ..I don’t worry about physical limitations… Being able to get back to just feeling better about my health issues probably the biggest thing ..in general just more positive about how my journey in life is going.
What days and times do you come to Croga?
Lately it has been driven by Gabriels school schedule.. but the normal week is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday…either 4:30pm or 5:30pm. Depending on work schedule…and the Hyrox on Sunday…
What’s your favorite WOD?
Anything that involves deadlifts…
What’s your least favorite WOD?
Burpees….
“The Scott” WOD! What would it be?
Every 2 min for 20 min
4 deadlifts + 3 power cleans + 2 hang squat clean + 1 shoulder to overhead.. at 60% 1 rep squat clean and jerk
What’s your favorite post-workout routine?
Jamba Juice and a shower
What’s your biggest fitness goal for this year?
That I really enjoy eating peppers as a snack…
What’s your biggest fitness goal for this year?
TBH the first thing was to be a good example for Gabriel and to introduce him to working out in this capacity.
Secondarily it was to get back down to my 2015 Weight….realizing that is more difficult than I expected…but still working on it.
What do you love about this type of fitness?
The comradeship that you get… everyone is at a different level of fitness, but we all respect and support whatever level someone is at. As well as the internal competition inside my own mind…
What words of advice do you have for new members or people considering joining Croga?
Don’t be intimidated by what you might see… there are many different shapes, ages, and fitness levels at Croga, but we are all supportive, and we will do anything to help you in your fitness journey. And be prepared to embrace the suck.. it changes your mentality on what you can get through.
