Meet Kevin, our Member of the Month!
Kevin is our Member of the Month!!! If you’ve ever been to the 3:30 class, chances are you’ve met him. Kevin has been a staple of our afternoon crew for years, and from the moment he walks through the doors, he’s always wearing a smile and ready to work. He’s one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet, encourages everyone around him, and somehow still finds plenty of time to give Nick a hard time—which, if we’re being honest, is one of our favorite things about him. Over the past couple of years, Kevin has completely transformed himself, losing nearly 50 pounds while becoming stronger, moving better, and continuing to push himself every week. He’s proof that consistency, patience, and showing up really do pay off. We couldn’t be happier to recognize Kevin as our Member of the Month!
Way to go, Kevin – you earned it!
When did you join Croga?
I started coming regularly in March 2024. Prior to that, I did some drop in classes at Croga in 2021/2022 but wasn’t consistent, because you know…life.
What were you doing before for fitness?
Usually working out on my own or the occasional class at my workplace gym. Before that, I went to a CrossFit gym in Santa Clara, but that had a very different culture, more about going heavier before mastering the movement.
What was your first workout? First reaction to your first workout?
I don’t recall exactly but it was during covid when we had to workout outside and involved a lot of rowing. I was just happy to finish and not throw up.
What improvements have you seen in the way you look, feel, and perform?
I’m able to move better, lift heavier, and have lost about 50 lbs since 2024. The movements also translate well into everyday life such as lugging a suitcase up the stairs in a Japanese train station. I’ve also been doing some 1-1 coaching with Nick and have seen real improvement in my squat depth in the last few months.
What days and times do you come to Croga?
You can usually find me at 3:30, sometimes 4:30, ~4 days a week. I may end up switching to mornings once my parental leave is over and I have to go back to the office. Occasionally, I’ll pop in on a Saturday for mobility.
What’s your favorite WOD?
I generally like the more lifting focused WODs with movements such as deadlifs, front or back squats, KB swings, and rowing for cardio.
What’s your least favorite WOD?
Anything with a lot of running or more than like 10 burpees.
“The Kevin” WOD! What would it be?
Something with deadlifts, rowing, and russian KB swings.
What’s your favorite post-workout routine?
Usually blasting the AC on the drive home and then a hot shower.
What’s been your favorite culinary discovery since joining Croga?
Not necessarily culinary, but I’ve been hooked on Boba Tea protein lately.
What’s your biggest fitness goal for this year?
Maybe to do an unbanded pull-up.
What do you love about this type of fitness?
I love the support and camaraderie of the Croga community. I’ve always worked out more efficiently in a class setting…on my own, I’ll spend too much time picking the next song.
What words of advice do you have for new members or people considering joining Croga?
Give it a try! Ease into it for 2-3 days for a week or so. The coaches are great about meeting you where you’re at and scaling movements as needed.
