Not sure if you’ve heard, but CrossFit HQ has decided to take The Open concept to a new Team Series that they’re launching later this month. The details are as follows:

team_series_logo The series will consist of three separate competitions, each featuring multiple workouts. The first set of workouts will be released the week of August 28. Once announced, teams will have four days to submit their scores.

The other 2 sets of workouts will be announced on September 18th & October 9th.

For the series, teams will consist of any two men and two women who perform the workouts together. Teams may include members from different gyms.

There will be three divisions: Rx, scaled and masters. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10 teams in the Rx division once the series is complete.

Registration is US$100 per team for all divisions, so only $25 per person.

There are several things that I think are really cool about this concept.

First off, any athlete can compete with friends no matter their skill level or the gym that they associate with. This really opens up the doors for a lot of fun to be had.

Second, since any group of athletes can team up as long as they plan to be in the same place to complete the workouts in the allotted time, we’re going to see “super teams”, which will be very entertaining to watch, even if only by video.

Third, it creates an opportunity for gyms to get together, cheer their friends on and work together during the late summer/fall in addition to when we already do this in the winter for The Open.

We hope to see a few teams come out of Cróga, if not for the prize money, at least for the fun and camaraderie.

  • Check in with your coach every week by submitting a complete check-in with photos, measurements, daily weigh-ins and a narrative of at least 200 words. *unless you and your coach have agreed upon a different approach.
